Hi, I’m Michela, a writer-director born into an Italian-American family, so I was basically destined to be a multi-hyphenate. I now make that same family furious by working far from home in LA.
I got my start directing dozens of comedy shorts for Adult Swim, Above Average, and Funny or Die. Nowadays, I bring my comedy to the commercial world, directing spots for clients like Netflix, HBO, Amazon, Google, and more.
Recently, I directed Netflix’s “Stranger Things Immersive Watch Party,” which was nominated for a Primetime Emmy in Outstanding Innovation in Emerging Media Programming, and for The Producer’s Guild Innovation Award.
Of all my work, I’m most proud of “Heirloom,” a film I recently directed about my Italian-American family that starred Isabella Rossellini. “Heirloom” was a recipient of a The Russo Brothers’ Italian American Film Forum grant.
I’m proud of “Heirloom” not because it competed in dozens of film festivals, nor because it won several awards, but because it made my family back home a little less furious.
